I samband med Malmös Gallerinat den 27/9 presenterar Abandoned Gallery konstnären Ursula Nistrup.
Verket heter A Public Sound Work in Four Parts. Nistrup arbetar med konceptuell konst innefattande både installationer, ljud och ljus.
"I A Public Sound Work in Four Parts forsøger jeg ud over at skabe et vaerk også at diskutere kunst i det offentlige rum.Hvis Abandoned gallery er placeret i det offentlige rum syntes jeg også det er relevant for jer og for malmo. Eller hvis i gerne vil diskutere dette komplicerede at udstille i det offentlige rum."
Ursula Nistrup, born 1974 in Gentofte, Denmark. Based in Copenhagen and in Los Angeles. Studied architecture and photography, initiated artistic education 1996. Then studies at Glasgow School of Art(MFA) and CalArts.

Don't Avert That Uncertain Gaze

Self presentation:
I was born in 1975 in Kalmar, Sweden. I studied art theory and history, english language and comparative literature at Lund University 1996-2000. After a couple of years of creative pratice I switched to studying fine arts and graduated from Umeå Art Academy in 2007. I now live and work in Malmö. I am also part of the sound collective Laika. As All Spec Kit and Andres Corazón I produce music in various forms. The alias TV-OUT holds my VJ-activities with Erik Sandelin of Unsworn.org. The work I produce is mostly based on video, photography and sound. My material can be observations of everyday life, found media, discarded stuff or the results of systematic processes. I'm fascinated by the human urge to give meaning to what we experience, how we value things and how that is manifested through language. I try to keep my use of tools simple, and working methods include recontextualising material or just pointing at something.

Vernissage. Christin Wahlström
Christin Wahlström går sista året på Konsthögskolan Valand i Göteborg. På Abandoned Gallery presenterar hon en installation - ett förgyllt element. I Wahlströms installationer och objekt blandas du och nu på ett egensinnigt sätt. Smide, textila hantverk och traditionella material såsom lin och guld blandas med hennes intresse för pingis, mötesplatser och kartor. I hennes tappning förvandlas äldre kunskapstraditioner till något nytt.
Genom oväntade val av material, skala och platser skapas förskjutningar och kopplingar som gör oss uppmärksamma på såväl sociala koder som äldre hantverkskunnande.
Just nu pågår Konsthögskolan Valands examensutställning Long Story Short på Göteborgs konsthall, 3 - 18 maj, där Wahlström och Thomas Dahl medverkar.

Vernissage. Thomas Dahl.
Thomas Dahl går sista året på Konsthögskolan Valand i Göteborg. På Abandoned Gallery visar han verket Stolen från 2005 bestående av en film (11 min) och en installation. Filmen beskriver tankar och funderingar kring en stol som sågas/filas/borras ner och byggs upp igen. Verket har visats på Valands vårutställning 2005, på Galleri Rotor hösten 2005 (i samband med Göteborgs internationella konstbiennal) och på Atalante 2007 (scen för samtidskonst).

The starting situation of this work shows a group of visitors in my studio who move around the room. It is possible for each of them to decide that the whole group should stand still, by standing still himself. By starting to move again, he decides that the group should start moving again. The aim is to locate the moment of a decision and to recognize the chain of subsequent reactions.

In the recent past, I have been creating work in such a way that it distinguishes itself from the everyday either solely by means of its context or as a result of the conspicuous presence of small absurdities. Some of the pieces are public interventions, some are collaborations with groups like choirs, students and artists. Other works involvethe analysis of personal environment using primarily observation of situations and objects of my everyday life. Ambivalent feelings toward my own artistic practice are a theme in my work, as illustrated in one of my written works "A Glimpse of Alexanderplatz," about my pursuit of a group of thimbleriggers whom I invited to participate in an exhibition while considering the contrairiness in participatory art .In my search for an appropriate attitude to my cultural and social environment, I also try to focus and reflect on uncertainties with respect to formal questions and to the development of my professional career. Since 2004, I have been assembling a sequential archive of everyday objects including beer bottles, a stamp, plastic folders,books and newspapers, all of which have manufacturing errors. Each object tells a special story about its production and makes a concise record of the moment that went out of control. For the last 3 years, I have been primarily occupied with the concept of right and wrong and the significance of errors in the context of art, behaviour and commerce, and the possibility of deconstructing inflated technical, cultural and social ideologies.
